Quick answer

Measure the rigid foundation, then measure the narrowest doorway, stair turn and landing on the route. A box spring will not flex like a mattress.

Measure the object

Record length, width and depth. Check whether the foundation is one piece or a split pair. Do not assume a queen foundation is split.

Measure the route

Measure the clear opening, not the trim-to-trim width. Include door hardware, rails, low ceilings and the space needed to rotate at landings.

Access checklist

Note the floor, elevator dimensions, loading-zone rules, parking distance and any door that cannot be removed. Photos of the tightest turn can help scope the work.

Avoid last-minute surprises

Clear the route and remove small objects, but do not cut or break the foundation to force it through. If the route looks uncertain, leave the final handling plan to the removal crew.
